Increased Comfort, Durability and Style

When you think of Van or RV cushions, comfort may not be the first word that comes to mind. But replacing old, worn-out cushions can make a big difference to the comfort of your RV. New cushions will provide better support and overall comfort. Replacing your RV’s cushions can also improve the durability of the seats themselves. Old, worn-out cushions can start to deteriorate over time and are more likely to tear or break. New cushions will not only be more comfortable but also more durable and able to withstand the rigors of travel.

Replacing your RV cushions can also give your RV a whole new look. You can choose cushion covers in different colors, patterns, and styles to match your RV’s interior. This can give your RV a fresh, modern look and make it feel like a brand-new vehicle. By replacing your worn-out cushions with new, higher-quality foam, you’ll be more comfortable to enjoy even the longest road trip.

Finding the Right Fit

To start replacing your RV’s cushions, you’ll want to find the perfect fit for your vehicle. With so many options available, it can be difficult to determine which cushion will provide optimal comfort and fit your RV’s interior design. Here are a few tips to consider when selecting new cushions.

Measure and Measure Again

When selecting new cushions for your RV, it is important to measure the width, length and fitness of the existing cushions. When measuring, leave the foam in the cushions and measure from seam to seam. This will help you determine the size of the cushions needed and ensure that the new cushions fit perfectly in the space.

Choose Cushion Material Carefully

The material of the cushion is an important consideration when replacing RV cushions. Low-quality foam cushions will fall apart more quickly, meaning you’ll need to replace them again sooner rather than later. We recommend our Everflex high-resiliency (HR) foam for the most comfortable, longest-lasting cushions. If you’re looking for a more economical solution, our Duraflex foams can get the job done, but may not last quite as long or be as comfortable.

Find the Right Fabric

One of the most important decisions you’ll need to make is what fabric to choose. The right fabric will ensure that your cushions are comfortable, durable, and easy to maintain. Opt for a fabric that matches your RV’s interior and your style preferences. We recommend Sunbrella® fabrics for most RV and Van cushions, as they are highly durable and stain and UV resistant.

Think About Your RV’s Climate

Your RV will be exposed to many different climates and temperatures, so it’s important to consider these when choosing a fabric or cushion. Some fabrics are better suited to warm climates, while others are better for cooler climates. Fabrics like vinyl, while durable and waterproof, usually aren’t comfortable for seating over the long-run. Think of your old vinyl school bus seats and you’ll get the picture...

Look for Comfort and Style

In addition to measuring and choosing the right material, it is important to consider the comfort and style of the cushion. Look for cushions that provide the right amount of support and look great in the RV. This means the right firmness. Generally, a cushion with an ILD of about 45 (we recommend our Everflex V44 for most cushions that are 3-6 inches thick) will provide a medium-firm level of support.

Replacing RV Cushions: A Step-by-Step Guide

When it comes to replacing the cushions of your RV, getting the perfect fit is key. If your cushions don’t fit properly, they won’t be as comfortable or look as good. Fortunately, measuring your cushions for replacement is a fairly straightforward process. Here’s how to make sure you get the right fit every time.

Step 1: Gather Your Tools and Measure

Before you begin, you’ll need to gather a few tools. Measuring tape, a pencil and a piece of paper for taking notes will all come in handy. You may also want a camera so you can take pictures of the area you’re measuring. This will make it easier to recall the measurements when you go to order your replacement cushions.

Step 2: Order Replacement Foam, Covers or Both

FoamOrder’s easy step-by-step process will walk you through how to turn your measurements into an order for new cushions. You’ll just need to enter your measurements, select your foam, batting and cover options, and wait for your new cushions to arrive. Or, for the DIYers out there, you can order standard upholstery foam and cut the cushions to your dimensions on your own.

Step 3: Removing the Old Cushions

Once your new cushions or foam arrives, you’ll want to commence removing your old cushions. Start by removing any covers or fabrics from the cushions. Next, locate any screws or nails holding the cushions to the RV and remove them. If you find any staples, use a flat head screwdriver to remove them. Once all the fasteners are removed, the cushions should come off easily.

Step 4: Installing the New Cushions

Once the old cushions are removed, you can start installing the new ones. Place the new cushions inside the old covers. If you measured correctly, they should fit snugly into the covers. Once they are installed, use the same screws and nails to secure the cushions in place. Some RV and Van installations will rely on velcro or ties to hold the cushions down, which will make things a little easier.

Step 5: Adding Covers and Fabrics

If you’ve decided to add covers and fabrics to the new cushions, you’ll need to put the foam inside the covers before installation. For the DIY crowd, you can of course purchase fabric and sew the covers yourselves. Once you’ve purchased your covers or the covers are made, you can slip them over the cushions and secure them with Velcro or buttons.
