We recommend that you select your camping mat foam based on how often you will use your mat. For occasional use (3–15 nights per year), our Econoflex™ foam should do the job at a more affordable price. If you’re looking for a more comfortable night’s sleep and longer lasting foam, select our Everflex high-resiliency foam, which should last 15–20 years, even with more use. The firmness of your foam is also something to consider. We recommend that most users start with “medium“ firmness, and deviate from there based on your personal sleeping preferences. Our recommendations for firmness are based on a 175-pound person, and your weight will affect the foam’s feeling of firmness (the lighter you are, the firmer a foam will feel to you). If you need guidance, don’t hesitate to contact our customer service experts for advice.
Dacron polyester is purely optional, and doesn’t serve much purpose in a camping mat. Dacron is primarily used to give the cushion a fuller look inside the cushion cover, which isn’t important to most camping mat users.
In general, we recommend at least a 3-inch thickness for camping mats to provide a comfortable night’s sleep without “bottoming out“ (hitting the ground below your cushion). If you are ordering softer firmness, you might consider 4 inches of thickness. If you select firm foam, you might be able to get away with 2 inches of foam without bottoming out.
