CMHR (Combustion Modified High Resilient) foam is used when the strictest fire code standards are required such as in hotel lobbies, hospitals, schools and mass transit vehicles such as airplanes and buses. Also known as fire-retardant or flame-retardant foam, this foam contains chemicals that slow or stop the spread of fire, limiting the damage if one breaks out. We offer two firmness options for our fire-retardant foam cushions. Choose between firm cushion foam (ILD 45) and medium-firm (ILD 35) depending on what the cushion is intended for. Both are high-density foams that will last a long time in most situations. Note the fire-retardant chemicals in this foam give the texture a grainy feel.
We can cut your fire-retardant (CMHR) foam to any dimension or thickness, including cutting to a pattern that you send to us. We sell Code Red 2® brand fire foam, which is a preferred component to pass the CAL (California Technical Bulletin) 133 and CAL 117 fire codes. These codes represent the amount of time it takes for the composite to burn. The CAL 133 code is one of the most stringent and applies specifically to furniture in large private offices, government buildings and public spaces. Fire retardant standards are determined by testing the finished product. This nearly fireproof foam is a good component to help you pass these fire code tests.

Medium-firm CMHR foam has an ILD of 35 that works better for 3–5 inch thick seat cushions and back cushions. The density of our CMHR fire-retardant foam is 2.1 lb./ft.³.
