Frequently Asked Soundproofing Foam Questions

Which kind of foam is best for soundproof or sound control foam?

Our Y37 foam has a density of 2.0 lbs/ft³, and a 35 ILD, meaning it’s soft and easy to cut with scissors or a serated knife. It is a flexible polyester polyurethane foam. Make a selection above to buy this foam in pre-cut sheet sizes, or have our factory cut the exact shape and size you need. You can also order a can of Pro-Tack foam adhesive to glue the soundproof foam to any surface quickly and easily.

How thick should soundproof or acoustic foam be?

We generally recommend 2 inches of soundproof foam to keep the appropriate amount of noise at bay. For especially loud noise, you can use an additional layer of 6mm Neoprene to further block sound waves.

How do I install soundproof foam?

Acoustic foam is best applied to your walls and surfaces with a heavy staple gun or our Pro-tack adhesive spray. Remember, most soundproof sheets larger than 82" × 96" will have seams. During the vacuum packing process (for shipping) these seams can open. It is recommended that you purchase a can of foam glue to mend any seams that may have ripped during shipping.
