Frequently Asked Deep Seating Cushion Questions

Which foam is best for Indoor Deep Seating Cushions?

Because deep seating cushions are deeper than traditional seat cushions, they often need to be just a bit firmer so you don’t sink back into the cushion and have difficulty getting/standing up. For deep seating cushions using our traditional polyurethane foam, we recommend starting with our medium Everflex™ V44 if your cushion is between 3 and 5 inches. If your deep seating cushion is thinner, you might consider firmer V54, and if thicker than 5–6 inches we recommend our softer V34. If you want luxurious, organic latex foam, we recommend medium N31 or medium-firm N36 for something firmer. For deep seating cushions, we do not recommend down or polyester envelopes, or memory foam as a top layer, as this will make it difficult to “get out” of the cushion. Should I order dacron (polyester) batting for my deep seating cushions?

FoamOrder recommends dacron batting for all polyurethane seat cushions, traditionally with a book wrap. With deep seating cushions, a dacron bookwrap gives an upholstered deep seat cushion a full, comfortable, rounded look. Without dacron batting your cushions will likely show wrinkles in the fabric. We don’t generally recommend double-dacron with deep seating cushions as this provides too much “give” that might make it difficult to “get out” of deep seating cushions.
