If your daybed or cabana is outdoors and your cushions will be exposed to the rain and sun, we recommend outdoor foam. Medium firmness is usually the best choice if your cushion is between 3–5 inches. Thicker than that and we’d recommend soft firmness and thinner than that you should try firm outdoor foam to make sure you don’t bottom out and hit the surface below the cushion. If your cabana or daybed is protected from the elements, you can probably use traditional polyurethane foam. Either our Everflex™ high-resiliency (HR) foam if your cabana or daybed cushion will get consistent use, or our standard Econoflex™ if it will get occasional use. While we do recommend it, an outdoor daybed doesn’t necessarily need dacron batting. The batting provides cushions with a fuller, more comfortable look, will allow you to get the foam into the cover more easily, and it will help the cushion cover to be stretched and avoid wrinkles. However, it is purely optional for this type of cushion.
Outdoor daybed cushions should be at least 3 inches thick to make sure you don’t “bottom out” or hit the surface below the cushions when using it. Depending on the firmness of the foam and the weight of the user, up to 5 or 6 inches can be used.
