Frequently Asked Poker and Gaming Table Questions

What thickness of neoprene is best for a poker or gaming table?

Most of our customers choose 2 to 4mm neoprene for poker and gaming tables. That range gives a soft, springy surface where chips stack easily and cards are simple to pick up. Thicker sheets are usually only needed for heavier-duty applications. You can compare every thickness on our neoprene sheets page.

Which side of the neoprene should face up?

Put the nylon fabric side up as your playing surface and the plain or textured rubber side down. The nylon face gives you your table color and a smooth feel for cards and chips, while the rubber side helps the neoprene adhere to the wood.

Will one sheet of neoprene cover my poker table?

Full sheets measure 51 × 83 inches, though manufacturing variances mean a sheet can run as small as 50 × 80 inches. After leaving a few inches on each side to wrap and staple, one sheet covers a 36 × 72 inch oval or a round table up to about 44 inches across. Larger tables, such as a 54 inch round or a 48 × 96 inch oval, are bigger than a single sheet, so contact us before you order.

What is the best material for a poker table surface?

Most poker table surfaces use felt, speed cloth or neoprene. Felt and speed cloth are fabrics stretched over a separate layer of padding, while neoprene is a closed-cell rubber with a fabric face, so the cushion is built into the material. The rubber layer keeps spills from soaking through to the wood, and it resists compression, so it recovers from chip stacks and leaning elbows instead of holding imprints.

How do I attach neoprene to a poker table?

When your sheet arrives, let it lie flat for a few days so it relaxes and stops curling. Glue the rubber side to the wood with a neoprene-compatible adhesive such as Pro-Tack foam adhesive, smoothing out any bumps or bubbles and pressing until the glue cures, which takes about 15 minutes. Then pull the neoprene taut over the edge, staple it underneath every few inches and trim the excess.

Can I use neoprene as a poker mat or table topper without gluing it?

Yes. A sheet of neoprene laid on any hard, flat surface turns it into a smooth, quiet place to play, and it can be put away when game night is over. For a loose mat, choose a sheet with a textured rubber side facing down, since textured neoprene keeps better contact with the surface underneath. Cut it to size with sharp shears or our neoprene scissors.

What foam should I use for a poker table rail?

We recommend 1 inch thick, high-density C33 or C55 upholstery foam for poker table rails, because it holds its shape under the constant weight of players leaning on it. Our customers recommend ordering a 24 × 80 inch piece so you have enough to make a continuous strip around the rim. Once it is on the table, cover it with leather or another upholstery material.

Do I need foam padding under the neoprene?

It is optional. Neoprene already gives you a cushioned playing surface on its own and can be glued directly to the wood. Some builders add a layer of foam padding between the wood and the neoprene for extra cushioning and protection.

Can I put a custom printed design on gaming table neoprene?

Our neoprene sheets come unprinted, so the design is applied by you or a print shop. For dye-sublimation printing, choose white polyester-faced neoprene, since polyester holds sublimation ink and a white base keeps colors true to your file. Nylon-faced neoprene is better suited to silk-screen printing.

How do I clean a neoprene gaming table?

Wipe up spills promptly, then spot clean with mild soap, water and a soft cloth and let the surface air dry. Because the rubber layer is closed-cell, spills stay on top instead of soaking into the wood underneath.

Do you offer bulk pricing for poker rooms, clubs and table builders?

Yes. Discounts apply automatically at checkout when you buy multiple neoprene sheets: 25% off 8 to 23 sheets and 35% off 24 or more. Neoprene orders normally ship in 3 to 7 business days, and large bulk orders may need additional lead time.

Foam and Neoprene for Poker & Gaming Tables

The playing surface makes or breaks a poker or gaming table. Without a good one, chips bounce instead of stacking, cards are hard to pick up, and dice and game pieces damage the wood. Neoprene fixes all three. This closed-cell rubber with a nylon fabric face works as padding and game table fabric in one layer, and it keeps spills from soaking into the table. Most customers choose 2 to 4mm neoprene sheets, and for padded rails, our high-density upholstery foam is the poker table foam we recommend. Whether you're building a table, replacing a worn surface or making a portable poker mat, you'll find the materials and step-by-step guidance below.

Advantages of Neoprene for Gaming Tables

                  Soft, springy playing surface

Neoprene keeps chips and dice from bouncing wildly across the table, while still providing a firm, smooth surface on which to stack poker chips. The protective layer also prevents game pieces from making noise and damaging the table.

                  Waterproof and easy to clean

Our closed-cell foam is the same material used to produce wetsuits, which means it can wick away moisture. As a result, it protects the wooden base of your table from water damage, and spills are easy to clean.

                  Highly durable

Compared to other options that don’t recover well from imprints, neoprene is resistant to compression, which makes it ideal for withstanding the pressure from regular gaming usage over time. A neoprene surface for your game table can last for hundreds of gaming sessions without wearing out or discoloring.
