Which firmness is right for me?
Most people choose either our soft or medium feeling latex mattress topper when softening a firm mattress. The soft feels nice, cushy, and plush while the medium is reported by many customers to offer the perfect balance of comfort and support. Use a firm latex mattress topper to add more life to a failing mattress. “ILD” is the hardness numbering system for rating the firmness of foam. ILD is the number of pounds it takes to compress a sample of latex one inch. We carry five different firmnesses: Soft N25 (11–18 ILD), Medium N28 (24–28 ILD), Firm N31 (30–35 ILD), Extra Firm N36 (39–44 ILD), and Hard N45 (58–64 ILD).
Typically, most people prefer a 3" latex mattress topper as it produces a substantial increase in comfort. People who select a 2" thick topper do it because they only desire a small improvement in their comfort. There is also a 1" topper for a slight improvement. Most stomach sleepers also prefer 2" toppers while side sleepers prefer 4" in thickness to really allow them to sink in.
Latex has natural flaws
Latex mattress toppers are a natural product and should be used with a cover. Natural latex will gradually dry over time and a cover will slow the process and keep the latex crumbs inside. Organic latex mattress toppers have naturally occurring flaws that include discoloration, small tears, small air pockets, and the visible holes do not always go all the way through. Small crumbs shed off the material. Only the California King size organic latex mattress topper is made with a glue seam. Our organic latex mattress topper has a sort of buttermilk rubber smell. This smell is slight and most customers don’t find it unpleasant. If you are very sensitive to smells, we can send you a free sample. These free organic latex mattress topper samples are too small to help with firmness questions and only help with smell, touch, or allergy questions.
