Right-angle or curved?
The right shape depends on the inside corner of your furniture, so look at where the two sides of the seat meet.
Right-Angle L
The inside corner is a sharp 90° turn. This is the most common shape for built-in benches, breakfast nooks, banquettes, and window seats that wrap a corner.
Curved L
The inside corner is rounded. You'll see it on many sectional sofa corner pieces and on outdoor sectionals where the frame sweeps around the corner.
One piece or Pattern Shape?
A one-piece L-shaped cushion has no seam at the corner, so it won't gap, bunch, or shift where the two sides of the seat meet. That makes it the best choice for nooks and benches where the corner gets daily use. If your corner is an unusual angle, or the frame curves in a way neither L shape matches, choose Pattern Shape, send us a paper template traced from the seat, and we'll cut your cushion to match it.
How to measure
Measure the seat itself rather than your old cushion, since worn foam compresses and shrinks over time. Our cushion builder asks for five measurements, shown on the diagram below.
Back/Top — the straight back edge of the wide section, from the outside corner to the inside corner where the cushion steps in.
Front/Bottom — the full front edge from end to end, including the ear. This is the longest edge of the cushion.
Length — the full outside side of the wide section, from the back edge to the front edge.
Ear — the end of the narrow leg, from the front edge back to the inside step.
Thickness — how thick you want the finished cushion to be.
You'll also set the unit of measurement, whether it's a seat or back cushion, and the quantity.
Pick a foam family for how your sectional, couch, or bench cushion will be used, then a specific foam. Density (lb/ft³) drives durability. Firmness is rated by ILD (Indentation Load Deflection), and the higher the number, the firmer the seat. Not sure which feel you want? Order foam samples first.

A wrap goes around the foam to round its edges and fill out the cover for a finished, upholstered look. Dacron is standard and strongly recommended on every cushion. Without a wrap, fabric tends to look baggy and wrinkled, which shows most along the long sides of an L.

Overlocking sews and finishes the inside fabric edges so they can't fray or unravel. We consider it essential on cushions, since it's what keeps a cover intact through years of zipping and washing.

Welt Cording
A tailored, polished look with a reinforced edge. Match it to your cover fabric for a seamless finish, or pick a contrasting fabric to make the edge pop.
Top Stitching
A refined, durable finish stitched along the edge that adds both style and longevity. It's a clean alternative to cording.
Attachment: Chair Ties or Velcro Straps
Keep an L-shaped bench or nook cushion from sliding with chair ties (two strands per set, sewn from your cover fabric and knotted) or Velcro straps. Order up to eight sets, and specify placement, spacing, and tie length. 10" (25 cm) is standard.

How do I measure for a replacement L-shaped cushion?
Our cushion builder walks you through the five measurements an L-shaped cushion needs, with a labeled diagram showing which edge each one refers to. A few tips will help you get them right the first time:
Measure the seat, not the old cushion: worn foam compresses and shrinks over time, so the frame of your sofa, sectional, or bench gives you the true dimensions.
Refilling existing covers: measure the covers seam to seam and order foam inserts at the same thickness.
Curved or irregular corners: a paper template traced from the seat is the most reliable way to get a perfect fit. Choose Pattern Shape in the builder and send the template to us.

Which foam should I choose for my L-shaped cushion?
Start with how the cushion will be used. Denser foam holds its shape longer, and the ILD number in each foam's name tells you how firm it feels, with higher numbers feeling firmer.
Everyday sectional or family couch seats: premium EverFlex™ high resilience foam springs back after every use. V44 suits most 4–6" seat cushions. Go firmer with V54 for thinner cushions, or softer with V34 for thicker ones.
Breakfast nooks, banquettes, and benches: a firm foam like V44 or V54 gives high support with minimal sink, so you sit on top of the cushion at table height.
Back cushions and lounge seating: a soft foam such as V24 gives a plush, sink-in feel.
Everyday use at a lower price: DuraFlex™ is our mid-grade polyurethane upholstery foam with solid everyday support.
Guest rooms and light use: EconoFlex™ is an affordable option for furniture that isn't sat on every day.
All-natural: organic latex in medium N31 or medium-firm N36 is the most popular choice for latex seat cushions.
Need something even firmer? Rebond foam is an ultra-dense, extra-firm option made from bonded high-density foam. It barely compresses, which makes it a good fit for heavy-use benches and commercial seating.

How do I keep an L-shaped cushion from sliding?
Most sliding comes from a cushion that doesn't fill the frame, so an exact fit is the first fix. A few other options help:
Order one piece: a one-piece L-shaped cushion has no seam at the corner, so the two sides can't drift apart or gap where they meet.
Add chair ties or Velcro straps: ties are sewn from your cover fabric and knotted to the frame, and you can order up to eight sets with the placement and spacing you choose.
Match the corner shape: a curved cushion in a square corner, or a square cushion in a curved one, leaves gaps that let it shift.
Can I order L-shaped cushions for outdoor furniture?
Yes. Outdoor L-shaped cushions are made with dry-fast foam, an open-cell foam that lets water drain straight through instead of soaking in. That helps the cushion dry quickly after rain and resists mold and mildew. Dry-fast foam comes in soft, medium, and firm options and pairs best with outdoor performance fabrics like Sunbrella® that hold up to sun and moisture.

Can I order just the foam, or do you make complete cushions with covers?
Either one. Order foam inserts only if your existing covers are still in good shape, or get complete L-shaped cushions with new covers sewn to your measurements. If you only need new covers for cushions you already have, see our custom cushion covers page.

Because every L-shaped cushion is cut to your exact dimensions, custom cut foam is not returnable. Here's how our policy works:
Exchanges: custom cut foam may be exchanged within 30 days of receipt for store credit only, less a 25% restocking fee.
Return shipping: the customer is responsible for return shipping costs.
