FoamOrder Shipping Policies

Please take the time to read our concise shipping policies. Click each topic below that relates to your order.

Handling charges will apply to all orders

There is a $3 processing fee for each shipped or palletized package. Some exceptions apply—see below.

Please remember that the UPS or FedEx Ground Delivery shipping rate we provide is an estimate only. This is because most of our products are custom cut or built and we usually don’t know the dimensions or weight of your shipment until it is ready to leave our warehouse. We can always offer a fixed or exact quote for shipping/handling if needed. Just call and we’ll figure it out for you.

Actual shipping price and handling charges can be affected by the following:

  • For orders sent to a destination within the continental United States, UPS or FedEx Ground Delivery is the quickest and most cost-effective method.
  • We can provide an estimate of 3-day, 2-day, and next-day shipping speeds but won’t know the actual costs until the item is ready for shipping. If you need faster shipping, just add a comment to your shopping cart. Requests for quotes before shipping will delay your order if you don’t answer the phone when we call.
  • Foam and pillows can be bulky and UPS and FedEx add approximately $30 for each oversized box (exceeding 84 inches in combined length and girth). This fee is usually avoided by our shipping methods.
  • We vacuum-pack large foam pieces to avoid the oversize charge for an additional $5 handling fee (note that we will choose the least costly method for shipping your items).
  • Any package containing over $100 worth of merchandise will be insured at $0.35 per $100.

Custom cut foam and sewing

Custom cut foam usually ships in 3–14 days. We cycle through 15–20 different foam products weekly and our production schedule takes the type of foam you order into account. We offer a rush service fee and guarantee to prepare your order for shipping in 1–3 days for $75 and up depending on the order size. Some packing foams, most wedge, back bolster shapes, and cylinders take 14 days to ship. Custom sewing usually ships in 4–6 weeks. We ship the foam when the sewing is complete so it ships together.

We strive to consistently meet these timeframes, but occasionally we run behind. If your order has exceeded our projected ship date, you may contact us here.

If free shipping and handling is available to you

We offer FREE SHIPPING. We call it “discounted shipping” (up to 100% of the cost) and “discounted handling” (free) on most orders with a SUBTOTAL of $1500 or more that are not returned. (For NYC mattress and furniture customers, see next topic below.) On any order with a SUBTOTAL over $1000 we offer 50% off of the shipping. The shipping address must be within the lower 48 United States. For Alaska, Hawaii, or Canada, we guarantee freight not to exceed 18% of the order subtotal for (all non-clearance) mattress or bedroom furniture orders over $1500. (The customer pays all taxes/customs duties and brokerage fees.)

Free or discounted shipping is not offered for international addresses. Certain items may be excluded from free shipping due to their weight or dimensions. You will see in the shopping cart if shipping charges will apply. Free or discounted shipping offers do not apply to clearance items, wholesale orders, specially priced, or volume discounted items. Items added to the shopping cart as “Re-Orders” from your account will not be eligible for shipping discounts. However, if you add the item to your cart from the website, discounted shipping would be applied. Shipping discounts are forfeited if the order is returned. All shipping charges are deducted from your refund. If you return only a part of your order, and the part that you are keeping is less than $1500, the original shipping charges will be deducted from the value of the returned items.

Mattresses and furniture are shipped by commercial trucking freight lines (if not delivered by our local trucks)

We prefer to make all local San Francisco and Bay Area deliveries with our own truck.

Queen size mattresses 10" thick or larger, and 9" king sizes or larger, are usually too big for UPS or FedEx ground. Smaller mattresses ship UPS or FedEx ground (which is our first choice).

Most furniture orders ship on pallets.

Commercial trucking freight lines will call and schedule with you a 4-hour delivery window. Commercial addresses usually don’t require a delivery window. An adult signature will be required at the time of delivery—this cannot be avoided.

Please use a phone number that we can easily contact you, such as a cell phone.

When we offer free freight or truck delivery this includes one delivery attempt. You will be charged for any additional delivery attempts. Deliveries are to the curbside of your apartment or house and not inside. Inside delivery, or white glove service, is available for an extra fee, but arrangements must be made prior to shipping your order. Simply add comments to your shopping cart if you want a quote for white glove delivery.

Some curbside deliveries (not white glove) contain boxes that are heavy and require two people to safely move them. (A $20 bill will most likely sweet talk the driver to help you carry them inside, or have a friend ready to help when the delivery shows up.) If a free-shipping order is returned, you are responsible for shipping both ways. In other words, the free shipping is lost and you will have to pay both the original and the return shipping costs.

NYC orders: Freight orders (those too big for UPS or FedEx) to New York City receive a surcharge of $48 for the commercial trucks to enter the city. This fee will be charged even if your order qualifies for free shipping.

Save on all commercial trucking freight costs

You can save on freight costs if you ship to a commercial business address. Residential delivery surcharge is up to $100.

Inspect all deliveries for damage!

Since furniture is damaged most frequently while it is unloaded, always remember to closely help/supervise the driver during the unloading of your furniture. Speak up and voice your concerns loudly. (These are commercial drivers and they don’t know that they are handling fragile furniture.) Take time to inspect each package for damage such as tears, holes, or crush marks EVEN IF THE DRIVER IS IN A HURRY. If there is any damage, simply note the word “damaged” where you are asked to sign your name, and we will take care of the rest, including replacing damaged pieces and all associated charges, QUICKLY.

Military shipping

A note to our customers serving in the military overseas—if you are ordering items to be shipped to a base overseas, please be aware of the following:

  • We can only ship small and light items to APO or FPO addresses. If you are ordering mattresses or large items, please provide us with the city and country of the destination address.
  • Please note that, although we will investigate to find the least expensive way to ship your order, international orders may cost several hundred dollars to ship.

If we make an error with your shipment

If we make a mistake on your order, we will be responsible for the shipping and replacement cost using the same method and to the same destination as originally ordered.

Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam

Shipments to Alaska, Hawaii, and all international destinations are typically sent via the United States Postal Service to reduce costs. This is the least expensive method for delivering orders outside the UPS Ground Delivery zones.

International orders

Small items can typically be shipped via the United States Postal Service to reduce costs. This is the least expensive method for delivering orders outside the UPS Ground Delivery zones. Larger items will ship via UPS or FedEx. We often hold large international orders for a Paypal or wire transfer.
