Empress Bed Assembly Instructions

Please read these instructions completely before beginning assembly.

Tools needed:

  • Have a rubber mallet handy to help tap the ends of the bed together.
  • Have an adjustable wrench to tighten the nuts.

  1. Lay out the headboard parallel to the footboard, then lay out the rails betweem them, forming the basic shape of the bed.
  2. Remove the nuts and washers from each corner of the headboard and footboard.
  3. With someone holding one end of the bed rail and you holding the other end, attach it to either the footboard or headboard by sliding the screw stud into the hole in the rail. Put on the washer and then nut but do not screw on more than a few turns, yet. Notes: Sometimes the rails are designed for the opposite sides of the bed, so if you notice the corners do not line up or it does not fit, switch that rail with the other side. You may need to bend the rail a slight bit at odd angles up/down or in/out but do not force or bend too much. This may cause pieces of the frame to break off. Use a mallet to tap the head/foot boards towards the rails. Once all the slats are in place you will see that this frame is pretty solid. Do the same for the other side of the bed.
  4. Insert the two longest center slats. You will need the nuts completely loose (almost off) and the headboard/footboard and rails separated as much as possible from each other for these to slide into place.
  5. Insert the horizontal slats. There is a groove just above where the horizontal slats rest. Use this groove to allow your slats to slide into place. Start at one end of the bed and work back towards the other. First, put the slat into a grove on one side, hold it at an angle, and find the groove to slide it into the opposite position.
  6. Push the rails and headbaord/footboard together and tighten the nuts at the four corners. Only tighten snugly; not too tight. Do not over-tighten or you will break off the wood.
  7. Rest your vertical slats on the horizontal slats. Space them a few inches apart. Your mattress will pin them in place. Enjoy your new Empress frame!
